Understanding the Label and Why It Matters
At Pro-Ad, we're proud to offer a growing range of British-made merchandise. But we also think it's important to understand what "Made in Britain" really means...
There is no single legal definition in the UK, but in general, a product can be considered "Made in Britain" if:
- The final substaintial manufacturing process happens in the UK.
- The product undergoes a meaningful transformation in the UK (not just finishing or packaging)
- A significant percentage of the labour, materials or value is from within the UK.
In short, it's not enough to simply assemble or brand a product here. It has to be genuinely manufactured or crafted in Britain.
Common Misunderstandings
1. A pen manufactured abroad and printed with a logo in the UK is not "Made in Britain" - even if the branding is done locally.
2. Pens that are moulded, assembled and printed in the UK from start to finish do count as "British-made" and we proudly supply them.
3. Some products might be shipped in parts and put together in the UK. Unless there's a meaningful manufacturing step involved, they don't qualify as truly British-made.
Why It Matters
Choosing British-made merchandise isn't just about geography, it's about supporting UK jobs and businesses, reducing carbon emissions from shipping and telling an authentic brand story.
